Massmart project - Oasis - ended

The Massmart project - Oasis - has finally ended. The system has been running live since the 6th of January 2005. Bar a few minor hickups, the go-live had been a huge success thus far. Three billing runs had been successfully completed, and the daily interactions with the system is going smoothly.

The system is currently supporting about 20 interactive users daily, several scheduled batch jobs per day as well as the billing runs that happen twice a month. The WebMVC framework is rock solid and except for a workaround that had to be applied for a known clustering bug in JBoss, the framework has been running stable for more than six months now.

Security Security

Consider the scenario where you outsourced a project to a development house. Once they have finished and you approved the functionality, they deploy the product in a production environment and maybe have the system hosted if it is an online system. Have they educated you on the security risks in exposing a server to the Internet? Have they locked down the server and hardened the services running on it? Do they actively maintain the system to ensure ongoing security and reliability?
